It has just been officially announced that three EthiopiaLives photographers have come
3rd, 4th & 5th respectively in a national photography competition in
Ethiopia run by IFPRI and EDRI.
There were 200 entries altogether from all over Ethiopia, so this is a fantastic result.
Congratulations to the three amazing photographers:
- Atakilti (blogs as Mango) (from Tigray, 3rd prize)
- Workneh (from AfD, 4th - honorary prize)
- Alem (from Tigray, 5th - honorary prize)

The site you are now viewing is an archive of the EthiopiaLives project
up to the end of 2005 which will remain online as a record of the project.
This site is a mirror copy of the blog we hosted with 20six.co.uk.
20six have been making changes to their software which has meant we are no longer
able to host the blog with them. However, the latest photos from the EthiopiaLives
photographers are available on CAFOD's flickr site at:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cafod/

Ronaldo: "This man is working in a horse stable
located in an area called Jan Meda, in the north of Addis.
Here, horses are kept and given good care. People ride them
and sometimes races are held in the field. He looks after the
horses and their feed. Now, he his cleaning the stable and
putting the waste out in the open air to dry it. This is the
difficult part of the work. Feeding the horses, cleaning them
and playing with them is the interesting part! The horse
manure is sold to people who would like to use it as a
fertilizer which is a good source of income to the
institute."

We are very sorry that the technical problems with our
photo blog have taken so long to resolve. We have made some
changes, and hope that the site should be fully available
again in the next couple of
days. The EthiopiaLives.net

We have been having technical problems with our photo blog
which have meant that pictures have not been visible for the
last few days. We are working with 20six who host this site to
fix the problems and we hope everything will be working again
properly soon.
Thanks for your patience The

Dear friends. It is so important for things like this as
you can build bridges of friendship and understanding on an
ordinary human level. This, indeed, is a great step towards
world peace. Thank you.

These photos are wonderful; they clearly convey to
ordinary people the ordinaryness of the Ethiopian people too.
This can create a great compassion and get more and more
people to identify with the shared life with their brothers
and sisters under the umbrella of a common Humanity.
Lovely!

Ronaldo: "Tap water is mostly available in the
cities and many people have access in Addis. It is clean and
safe to drink as it is chemically treated and filtered from a
reservoir outside of the city. We use this tap water for
washing clothes, bathing, cooking, drinking and watering the
garden."
