  Jogi and African violets

Jogi was born in our house. We named her Jogi after a friend of the family because the pattern she has on her head looks like the turban he used to wear.

  The Shoe Shiner

In Addis the capital of Ethiopia there are many small children shining shoes. They live off the money they earn and some of them go to evening school. Most come from the rural side of Ethiopia and they also help their family in the countryside from the money they get from shining shoes. Their lives are often very difficult.

  Beti

Bethlehem has a twin sister, and as a twin gets support from Gemini Trust. She is excited about the whole concept of the EthiopiaLives.net project, saying that it is the first time in her life that anyone has trusted her with a camera:

"No-one would have loaned me a camera even for a day," she says, "and now I'm taking pictures for the project. Before there was no camera in my house - in fact there wasn't even a camera in my village!"

As part of ethiopialives.net she intends to take pictures of her life and her country and present them to the world.
