Sr Medhin is from Alitena, in the east of Tigray. She completed high school before joining the Daughters of Charity and, after studying the Bible for a year, decided to devote her life to the service of those in dire conditions.

Sr Medhin became a nun in 2004 and works at St Vincent Church, Mekelle as coordinator with responsibility for the needy (especially orphans) by providing foods, shelter and accommodation.
